Final Victim of Tragic Yacht Sinking in Sicily Identified as Tech Tycoon’s Daughter
London, UK: Divers recovered the body of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, daughter of UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch, from a sunken superyacht off Sicily on Friday, marking the seventh and final victim of the tragedy. The yacht, “Bayesian,” sank in a storm on Monday off the coast of Porticello, near Palermo, after being struck by a waterspout. Mike Lynch, 59, and five others, including his daughter, were among those who perished.
Lynch had invited friends and family aboard to celebrate his recent acquittal in a major US fraud case. The bodies of Lynch and four of his friends were recovered earlier in the week, while the yacht’s chef was found shortly after the incident. Hannah, who had just completed her exams and was set to study at Oxford University, was remembered as intelligent and warm-hearted.
Questions remain about why the yacht sank so quickly when other nearby boats were unaffected. Italian prosecutors have opened an investigation, with the yacht’s builder suggesting that a series of errors contributed to the tragedy. Salvage operations to recover the yacht could take up to eight weeks and cost around 15 million euros.
